
Wilderness First Aid - CPR C and AED

The Canadian Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid Program (WRFA) offers specialty first aid courses for those who live, work, and/or play in non-urban, remote, and wilderness settings. With three levels of training, participants can choose the course which best meets their needs for personal safety and the safety of others in remote and wilderness environments. Our unique approach to program development and commitment to evidence-based practices ensures the course curriculum is effective and relevant.
Remote First Aid
20 hour course

This course is for individuals that work or live in a remote (or non-urban) environment.
Typically responsible for safety of themselves.• Remote workplaces or communities (2 or more hours from organized health care)
• Wilderness (less than 3 hours from organized health care)
Learners must be in good health and physical condition
More than 50% of the course will be taught in a non-urban setting.

• Ability to comprehend and successfully demonstrate the skills
• Ability to complete a written, closed book, independently completed knowledge evaluation with a minimum mark of 75%
• Must meet additional legislative requirements, if applicable
• Learners must attend and participate in 100% of the course

Item For re certification, standards remain the same with the following variations:
• 8-10 hours
• Proof of current Remote First Aid or Wilderness Remote First Aid certification (or as legislation dictates) required.
• Must have access to the most current CRC Remote First Aid learner materials
• Learners are not required to purchase an additional Wilderness & Remote First Aid Field Guide unless the learner has not previously attended a CRC course or program that has had a revision.description
Wilderness First Aid
40 hour course

For individuals that work and/or spend significant time in a wilderness environment, or lead groups in a professional capacity.
Safety of themselves and their peers or group
•Wilderness (3 or more hours from organized health care)•Challenging environments with varied risk levels. Overnight to a few day environments
Learners must be 16 years of age and in good health and physical condition
More than 50% of the course will be taught in a non-urban setting.

• 16–20 hours of teaching time
• Proof of current recognized Wilderness First Aid or Advanced Wilderness First Aid certification (or as legislation dictates) required.
• Learners are not required to purchase an additional Wilderness & Remote First Aid Field Guide unless the learner has not previously attended a CRC course or program has had revision.
• Must have access to the most current CRC Wilderness First Aid learner materials
